Trade Volumes Fluctuated Significantly in Some Countries in May, with Enamelled Copper Wire Exports Down 8.39% MoM [SMM Analysis]

   According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in May 2025, China exported 12,108.06 mt of copper enamelled wire, up 26.59% YoY and down 8.39% MoM. From January to May, China exported a total of 57,364.21 mt of copper enamelled wire, with a cumulative YoY increase of 26.92%. (HS code 85441100)

     From the perspective of customs data, China's copper enamelled wire exports in May still showed strong performance, but declined significantly MoM compared to April. Specifically, in April 2025, China's copper enamelled wire exports covered 146 countries and regions, with a diversified trade performance. Affected by export tariff policies, there were significant changes in exports to some countries and regions in May. Exports to India surged from 114 mt to 693 mt, up 509.97% YoY; exports to Mexico increased from 115 mt to 569 mt, with a YoY increase of 396.33%. However, exports to Japan decreased from 1,305 mt to 1,036 mt, down 20.63% YoY; exports to Thailand decreased from 1,131 mt to 927 mt, with a YoY decline of 18.03%; exports to the US decreased from 594 mt to 467 mt, down 21.30% YoY, making it one of the countries with a significant YoY decline.

        Overall, China's exports maintained a good momentum, but due to changes in policies and other factors, there were significant changes in export destinations and export volumes. According to SMM, export orders for the enamelled wire industry have shown mediocre performance recently, and it is expected that export volumes will also show a downward trend in June.
